In October, students from the University of Pittsburgh Best Buddies chapter excitedly gathered in the campus Student Union to meet their Buddies for the 2009-2010 school year.
For the very first time this school year, the Pitt Buddy Pairs met each other and enjoyed an afternoon of food, drinks, bean bag toss, and dancing.
Over fifty people were in attendance as the Buddy Pairs got to know each other over a meal of pizza and soft drinks before everyone gathered around a projection screen to learn the famous dance set to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
The rest of the afternoon was spent dancing, talking, laughing, and taking pictures. Everyone enjoyed seeing each other within the chapter after the long summer break.
The chapter will be participating in a related event on October 24th called “Thrill the World,” where people simultaneously dance the “Thriller” choreography across the world to raise money for charity; Best Buddies Pennsylvania is the chosen charity of the event on the Pitt campus (www.thrilltheworld.com).
In addition to Thrill the World, the chapter has some additional exciting events lined up for the rest of 2009: a Halloween party, a Thanksgiving dinner, and a holiday party. The chapter is also looking forward to hosting the pirate-themed scavenger hunt, Midnight Madness, to raise money for Best Buddies Pennsylvania on their campus in 2010. |
